Distorted seeks to question the Suit, –constituted by jacket and trousers, though optical distortion, to create new experimental suits, that put in question its original shape, function and construction. It starts by researching about its meaning through history, going back to its origins in men´s fashion, to then be able to understand its evolution until now. This is contrasted with optics, light and reflections–the way they work, to distort through them. It also plays from a deep understanding of visual perception, to make the garments even more confusing with optical illusions in its textures.
With the merging of two subjects of personal interest, that are apparently unrelated, the tailor suit –with its perfect and specific construction– and the reflections –instantaneous and ephemeral– an interesting and fun result was created that also provokes a questioning regarding the reality that we see.
Distorted pretende cuestionar el traje sastre femenino –compuesto de saco y pantalón–, a través de la distorsión óptica, para generar trajes distorsionados que se cuestionen su forma, su función y su construcción originales. Toma como punto de partida una investigación del significado del traje a través de la historia, regresando hasta sus orígenes en la moda masculina, para poder entender su evolución hasta llegar a la actualidad; así como de la óptica, para entender cómo funcionan la luz y los reflejos, y poder distorsionar a través de ellos. Al mismo tiempo, se investiga la percepción visual y cómo nuestra mente genera las imágenes que vemos, para poder distorsionar también las telas de sastrería, generando texturas con ilusiones ópticas que vuelven las distorsiones aún más confusas.
A partir de dos temas de interés personal y aparentemente inconexos, el traje sastre –con su perfecta y específica construcción– y los reflejos –efímeros e instantáneos– se generó un resultado interesante y divertido que provoca un cuestionamiento respecto a la realidad que vemos.
